In 2013 after losing my father to Oesophageal cancer. I started to “look out of the box” and see a correlation between the high carb, low fat diet and lifestyle diseases such as cancer and cardiac problems which plagued both sides of my family.
The ketogenic diet was not well known back then, but intrigued me owing to its unknown or accepted practice.
It was then when I adopted the diet and also got out of the carbohydrate supplement business. Since adopting the ketogenic diet 9 years ago, I have proven the efficacy of this nutritional lifestyle, it has afforded me better health and more freedom.
My journey was profound to say the least, from experiencing bouts of hypoglycemia or the dreaded hunger knocks or what’s commonly known as the “bonk” I no longer was encountering these sensations.

My journey was profound to say the least, from experiencing bouts of hypoglycemia or the dreaded hunger knocks or what’s commonly known as the “bonk” I no longer was encountering these sensations.
In fact I hardly if ever experienced “the bonk”
It was if I became finally free, not encumbered by my constant need for refuelling. No longer having to pack my back pockets full of some type of nutrition in order to stay fuelled.
My fascination consistently increased, with wanting to find out, where does it end, when does the energy run out?
In 2019 the Jordanian Tourism board invited me to compete in a race that crossed the Jordanian Desert, starting at the Dead Sea and finishing 198km later at the Red Sea.
My goal was not to win but to ride at a respectable pace and not refuel by taking on board any calories, but yes just water.
To my astonishment I competed the ride finishing 5th overall and averaged 211 watts for 5hrs 46min.
I wasn’t hungry at all post the event.
This really intrigued me to say the least, once again how far could I push this ?
2020 arrived and so did COVID-19 and the mandatory lockdowns.
Like so many I was not able to leave my apartment, so I embarked on the next journey of my discovery into the advantages of being fat fuelled on a set of rollers.
I started riding on the rollers, and built up to riding for 2, 3, 4, 6 hours and then 9hours without refuelling.
Linking my rides to my Stages Cycling Gen 3 Dual Stages Power meter and the Zwift Cycling platform.
Now anyone can claim they have ridden great distance or time without refuelling.
So on the 29th of May 2020 I embarked on an event to honor all the first responders in the COVID-19 pandemic and the Noakes Foundation, the goal was 9hours on rollers without refuelling with witnesses.
I had Mr Lance Allam of MedWay who hosted the event at his offices who witnessed amongst several others my 9hours ride which I managed 10hours with nothing but water. The coffee machine on that day was broken.
It was a 6000 calorie effort.
Since then my performance has slowly started to increase and also my mileage per week and I continue to improve on my adaption into being fat fuelled.
I ride nothing less than 100km on the road, and the last 6 months my average distance is around 150km with regular rides of 200+km all without having the need to refuel, with my average power output being slightly below 200watts or above.
This practice of nutritional strategy is not isolated to me, my fiancée who adopted the diet eight months ago has excelled in her cycling, smashing almost everyone of her PB in power output.

My evolution is not just one who is interested in health and fitness, but rather self preservation and the pursuit of (preserving) liberty as well as the preserving the liberty of others. Liberty transcends both body and spirit with the central pillar being the mind. Mankind has a tremendous gift and that being the ability of thought, without thought or the ability to think we would not get lost in our favorite song, we would not be able to travel to the moon and we would not be able to conquer our fears.
I am an endurance athlete, a true endurance athlete who uses cycling as my vehicle to prove the efficacy of what I preach. My cycling endeavors are profoundly significant. I’ve been able to demonstrate what I consider to be true endurance via my achievements in the world of cycling. Showcasing what is achievable via optimal metabolic health, what I have done defies the current beliefs and fads regarding nutrition and fueling. I am a leading pioneer in the endurance cycling community regarding practicing predominantly a low to no carb animal based diet, my achievements in the cycling world have been acknowledged as well as refuted, owing to the dogma surrounding the need for high carb consumption. This was fuelled by thinking out of the box and asking questions
Since 2018, I’ve been fostering awareness of the problems related to diabetes and obesity, and the unnecessary high consumption of carbohydrates, culminating in 2022 with becoming an ambassador for the South African-based Noakes Foundation. My efforts have transcended the boundaries of South Africa and reached a great number of individuals in the USA and the EU. Gaining a healthy number of social media followers in this process.
Besides having spent as much as 20 hours a week (when I am not injured )training on a bike, my other passion is small arms and anything military. While I may not be the best marksman in the world, my firearm safety is impeccable.
My story is INDEED unique and would turn heads, I grew up primarily interested in art and I was a ballet dancer up until my late teens. As a young boy, I would hang out at my local gun shop, daydreaming about owning a handgun one day. My interests later progressed to working in the Arms Trade in South Africa and abroad.
Upon my return to South Africa, I founded a sports supplement brand and a cycling apparel brand. I had to keep my interests in firearms quiet, since my initial audience was predominately people who aren’t exactly “gun people”.
This became evident as my some of the partners that I had in cycling were dissatisfied when I started to showcase weapons and footage of me at the shooting range. Also with comments expressing negativity towards something that I hold very near a dear to me.
However, the time has come for me to disclose who I am and to promote what my passions are, and although I may potentially lose followers, I will ultimately gain more with the message I’m wanting to convey. Also, I am hoping to covert one or more people who were previously of the persuasion not to consider being a part of the 2A movement.
I want to Make America Healthy Again! America meaning the modern western world. I believe America is under attack with a substance called sugar, a lack of cholesterol, a lack of masculinity and diminishing individual liberty. Being a fan of firearms-related social media video, I’ve noticed the majority of individuals in gun culture are overweight and in poor shape, there is no other way to put it. Sure there are some ex spec operators who personify great shape, and yes the majority of Tactical Games competitors who are in admirable shape. There are even some top competitive shooters who are showing visceral fat and tactical love handles with high sugary drinks always by their side. The problem is a lack if awareness, herd mentality and lack of knowledge.
What’s the point of training daily with the purpose of making yourself efficient in defending yourself when your health is potentially in jeopardy?
What transpired post-1977 has been tragic, the vilification of cholesterol and the glorification of sugar. Think about the following: the original cowboys were not sporting the physiques of what is seen today. They were lean, hardy and helped shape America. So, what has changed? Once again, the glorification of sugar and the vilification of cholesterol. We also have become apathetic to someone who is out of shape and this has become the visual norm.
There is a myriad of studies showing the link to high carb sugar diets and mental issues and depression, there is a mechanistic link between a lack of cholesterol and mental problems, like depression and instability and what has society done, just prescribed brain medication.
I believe when an individual is healthier, they are more active, have greater self-worth and more responsible. Those same people are more apt to get outdoors, camp, hunt and think more about protection for their families and themselves. Healthier people will result in an increased customer base. Plain and simple. A brand that spearheads that process will gain those people’s loyalty.
It would be wonderful if an Arms company or a syndicate of small arms banded together to help me convey my message! Never before has an endurance cyclist been sponsored by an arms manufacturer, while also supporting the 2A movement. It will definitely turn heads. I have a strategy that will encourage the 2A community to reduce their sugar and think carefully about their nutrition. It would be an incredible message of goodwill on behalf of your company, in a relatively untapped market
